Super Saiyan 4 in "Dragon Ball Daima" was not what we expected

"Dragon Ball Daima" has brought back one of the franchise's most iconic transformations, but not in the way fans wanted.

Since its announcement, Dragon Ball Daima has generated a lot of expectations among fans of the series. One of the most striking points of the trailer was seeing Goku in a form that is very reminiscent of Super Saiyan 4, a very popular transformation from Dragon Ball GT . However, although the series seems to be reviving this form, it is not doing so in the way that fans would have expected.

The return of Super Saiyan 4... but with changes

In Dragon Ball GT , Super Saiyan 4 was introduced as a powerful evolution that combined the power of the Great Ape with human control, resulting in a unique transformation with a muscular design, long hair, and an intense aura. For many, this was Goku and Vegeta's most impressive form outside of official continuity.

In Dragon Ball Daima , however, the characters appear to have become childlike versions of themselves, but with Super Saiyan 4-like features such as fur and marked eyes. This change has caused some fans to feel that the transformation has lost some of its visual and symbolic impact.

Why doesn't it work the same?

The key difference is in context. In GT , Super Saiyan 4 was the result of a complex transformation process, with Goku reaching a new peak of power after temporarily regaining his adult form. In Daima , the change seems to be more a consequence of history than an evolution of power.

Plus, without a clear explanation of whether this form is actually Super Saiyan 4 or just a visual nod, the impact on fans is diluted. Instead of feeling like this transformation is a big moment for the franchise, many see it as a reference without the same importance it had in GT .

What does this mean for the future of Dragon Ball?

Despite the doubts, Dragon Ball Daima still has the potential to surprise us. While this return of the Super Saiyan 4 is not what many expected, the series could still develop a convincing explanation or put an interesting twist on this transformation.

However, if this new look is only used as a visual without a solid backstory, it could end up being a wasted opportunity to officially bring back one of the series' most beloved forms.
